About the Job

The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota (St. Paul campus) invites the applications for a temporary opportunity. This is a teaching-intensive appointment involving direct instruction and course leadership. The successful candidate will serve as the course coordinator and primary instructor for a core course in pharmacology to veterinary students during Spring semester 2027 (December 2026-May2027).

Responsibilities

Teach veterinary pharmacology courses 90%

• Modify curriculum as needed and provide instruction in veterinary pharmacology, covering anti-inflammatory drugs, analgesic drugs and local anesthetics and drugs affecting aspects of gastrointestinal and renal function.
• Develop clinical case studies and problem-based scenarios where students construct comprehensive treatment plans, evaluate drug interactions, and justify drug selections.
• Provide academic advising, career guidance, and remediation for students navigating complex pharmacological concepts or calculation-intensive material.
• Keep current in the field of pharmacology to broad knowledge and expertise.

Clinical Application & Practical Training 5%

• Train students in precise clinical math, including constant rate infusions (CRIs), fluid therapy calculations, and species-specific dosing adjustments based on body surface area or metabolic differences.
• Develop clinical case studies and problem-based scenarios where students construct comprehensive treatment plans, evaluate drug interactions, and justify drug selections.
• Oversee wet labs, pharmacy rotations, or simulated clinical scenarios for Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) candidates.

Assessment & Student Support 5%

• Provide academic advising, career guidance, and remediation for students navigating complex pharmacological concepts or calculation-intensive material.

Location and Work Environment

University of Minnesota-St. Paul Campus, College of Veterinary Medicine. This is an in-person teaching role with coordination activities being hybrid. On campus presence is required during instruction.

Work Schedule

Course schedule varies with 1-3 meetings per week and with class periods generally 1 hour in length.

Appointment Term

Temporary December 2026-May 2027.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• An MD, PhD, DVM, PharmD, or equivalent degree in pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology, pharmacy, biomedical sciences, or a closely related discipline.
• Experience teaching pharmacology or a closely related biomedical discipline at the university level;
• The ability to communicate complex pharmacological and pharmacotherapeutic concepts effectively to veterinary students

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a course coordinator, teaching in a veterinary professional program, developing curricula or assessments, or providing educational leadership is preferred.

Our research addresses critical questions related to acute and chronic diseases in both animals and humans. Using advanced scientific techniques, our four research clusters investigate the genetic, microbial, and immunological foundations of infectious diseases, as well as the biological mechanisms behind persistent and recurring illnesses. These discoveries help identify previously unknown disease-modifying molecular targets and develop innovative strategies to improve animal and human health.

Education

We provide comprehensive education for undergraduate, graduate, and professional veterinary students while also researching new and effective teaching methodologies. Our courses emphasize the intricate connections between animal and human health, equipping students with strong communication and critical thinking skills. This foundation prepares them for careers in animal or human healthcare, scientific research, agricultural sciences, and health policy.

Outreach

Faculty, staff, and students actively engage with the local community, research partners, industry leaders, and government agencies. Through outreach initiatives, we educate and inspire future scientists and medical professionals while addressing challenges that impact the health of companion animals, livestock, and people.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $70,000 - $90,000 annually, prorated for a 6-month appointment; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100%, 6-month Appointment
