Program Context & Mission:
The Whitefish Bay Middle School Musical operates as a "no-cuts" program dedicated to providing a brave space where every student can explore theater-from building sets and mastering tech to supporting peers behind the scenes. The Technical Director leads all technical stagecraft while fostering courage, collaboration, and hard work among middle school crew members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Leadership & Supervision: Mentor and manage middle school crew members in set building, lighting, sound, and backstage operations, ensuring an inclusive environment where every student has a meaningful role.
- Stagecraft & Technical Operations: Oversee set construction, sound design, and lighting design execution (collaborating with designers such as the Light Designer).
- Crew Script & Cueing: Utilize and maintain the crew script (modified script stripped of sheet music and stage directions) for tech execution.
- Facility & Schedule Coordination: Partner with the High School Auditorium Manager and HS Tech Director to schedule and execute build dates, Tech Week rehearsals, and post-show Strike.
- Vendor & Materials Management: Manage open purchase orders and technical supplies through approved vendors (e.g., Bliffert, Home Depot, Mainstage) and coordinate facility logistics such as set takedown dumpster placement with Buildings & Grounds.
Timeline & Commitments:
- Fall (Sept-Nov): Initial planning, set design review, and booking build dates with HS facility staff.
- Winter/Spring (Dec-April): Crew onboarding, set construction, and crew script prep.
- Production Week & Beyond: Full attendance at Tech Week, four show performances (April 23-25), and immediate post-show Strike following the final Sunday performance.
