Edera is seeking a freelance Technical Editor to support our team by reviewing, editing, and improving technical documentation to ensure clarity, accuracy, consistency, and usability. This role partners closely with subject matter experts, engineers, product teams, and writers to create high‑quality content that meets organizational standards and supports users in understanding complex information.

 

Key Responsibilities

•     Edit, revise, and proofread technical documents including manuals, product guides, whitepapers, knowledge base articles, and technical specifications.

• Ensure documentation adheres to company style guides, terminology standards, and brand voice.
• Translate complex technical information into clear, concise, user‑friendly language.
• Collaborate with writers, engineers, product managers, and designers to gather information and verify accuracy.
• Maintain and update documentation standards, templates, and best practices.
• Conduct quality checks to ensure consistency, completeness, and regulatory compliance (if applicable).
• Manage version control and documentation workflows to support iterative product development.
• Provide feedback and coaching to authors on writing structure, clarity, and technical accuracy.
• Support documentation planning for product releases, updates, and new features.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, or a related field.
• Proven experience (typically 3+ years) editing technical content in healthcare, information technology (IT), or related environments.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel.
• Familiarity with knowledge management tools.
• Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to handle multiple priorities.

 

PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES:

• Experience supporting health IT and federal government project initiatives.
• Experience working in agile development environments.
• Knowledge of UX writing principles and content accessibility standards.
• Understanding of content best practices across digital channels
• Background in API documentation or developer‑facing content.
• Certification from the Society for Technical Communication (STC) or similar organization.
