Job Overview
PROLIM is seeking an experienced Technical Editor and Writer 3 - Product Support to support Northrop Grumman's Aeronautics Systems team on the Range Hawk program. This role focuses on developing, authoring, editing, and validating technical publications and interactive electronic technical manuals (IETMs) for military and aerospace systems.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with military technical documentation standards, S1000D, maintenance procedures, and XML/SGML-based authoring tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Write, rewrite, edit, and review technical manuals, maintenance procedures, user manuals, service manuals, and operational specifications.
- Develop IETM data modules using S1000D / Spec1000D standards.
- Create and maintain maintenance-related procedures, including troubleshooting, fault isolation, repair, inspection, and scheduled maintenance.
- Interpret engineering specifications, technical drawings, blueprints, illustrations, and diagrams.
- Work with engineers and subject matter experts to gather technical information.
- Coordinate the preparation and selection of illustrations, diagrams, sketches, and charts.
- Perform quality reviews of technical manuals to ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance.
- Support technical manual verification and validation activities.
- Travel to customer-designated locations when required for verification events.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant experience in technical writing and editing, with education/experience requirements based on degree:
- Bachelor's degree: 5 years of experience
- Master's degree: 3 years of experience
- PhD: 1 year of experience
- Experience developing IETM data modules using S1000D / Spec1000D.
- Knowledge of military technical documentation standards:
- MIL-STD-38784
- MIL-STD-3048
- MIL-STD-1808
- Technical Manual Style Guide requirements
- Experience with Arbortext, SGML and/or XML authoring tools.
- Familiarity with Astoria Navigator common source database and IETM development processes.
- Experience writing maintenance procedures for avionics, electrical, mechanical, and other military systems.
- Familiarity with Illustration Part Breakdown (IPB) and SpecView IETM viewer.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Willingness to travel for customer verification events.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on maintenance experience with RQ-4 unmanned aircraft or ground segment systems.
- Experience supporting Global Hawk, ROK/Japan FMS, NATO AGS, or MQ-4 Triton programs.
- Experience developing Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM) and Operations and Maintenance Manuals (OMM).
- Participation in Customer Validation and Verification (CVV) events.
- Knowledge of Time Compliance Technical Order (TCTO) development processes.
- Lead Writer experience using Agile methodologies and JIRA.

- Active Secret clearance is required for this position.
