    As a Patient Care Assistant (PCA), you will work closely with nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide compassionate, high-quality patient care and support patients throughout their hospital stay. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy teamwork, staying active, and making a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.

    About Med Surg 2

    Med Surg 2 is a fast-paced medical-surgical inpatient unit specializing in the care of adult patients who are preparing for or recovering from surgical procedures. Our patient population primarily includes orthopedic, urology, OB/GYN, and general surgery patients, while also caring for medical patients with infections, wounds, dementia, mental health crises, and chronic health conditions.

    Our mission is to provide safe, high-quality care that supports patients in achieving a smooth recovery and returning to their baseline level of health.

    Position Responsibilities

    As a PCA, you will:

    • Partner with nurses and other healthcare team members to deliver exceptional patient care.
    • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including mobility, bathing, grooming, and toileting.
    • Obtain and report vital signs and other patient observations.
    • Perform phlebotomy and other approved patient care tasks.
    • Support patient safety initiatives and infection prevention practices.
    • Document patient care activities accurately and timely.
    • Collaborate with RNs, LPNs, Charge Nurses, and Unit Secretaries to ensure excellent patient outcomes.
    • Monitor patient responses to interventions and communicate concerns to the healthcare team.

    Schedule & Work Expectations

    Shift Options

    • Day Shift: 6:00 AM - 6:30 PM
    • Night Shift: 6:00 PM - 6:30 AM

    Employment Status

    • Full-Time: Three (3) 12-hour shifts per week
    • Part-Time: Two (2) 12-hour shifts per week

    Additional Requirements

    • Every third weekend rotation
    • Holiday rotation
    • Self-scheduling, with schedule preferences considered while balancing overall unit staffing needs
    • Consistent availability required; reduced hours or PRN scheduling accommodations are not available at this time

    Qualifications

    Required

    • High School Diploma or GED is required.
    • CPR is required through quarterly RQI training.
    • Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience
    • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
    • Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology.
    • Requires knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
    • Requires knowledge of principles of infection control.
    • Requires basic computer skills.
