Telecommunications Engineer

Location: Kansas City, MO

About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking a Telecommunications Engineer to join their growing engineering team in Kansas City, Missouri. This contract-to-hire opportunity offers the chance to work on large-scale, multidisciplinary projects including hyperscale data centers, manufacturing facilities, commercial campuses, and other complex infrastructure developments.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting telecommunications design projects, collaborating with multiple engineering disciplines, and contributing to the development of high-quality construction documents and telecommunications systems designs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, evaluation, design, and documentation of telecommunications systems for a variety of project types.
  • Design telecommunications infrastructure including:
    • Inside and outside plant pathway systems
    • Structured cabling systems
    • Equipment room layouts
    • Telecommunications spaces and support infrastructure
  • Develop project deliverables including:
    • Cable schedules
    • Bill of materials
    • Specifications
    • Rack and equipment layouts
    • Construction details and documentation
  • Perform engineering calculations, system sizing, problem analysis, and technical evaluations.
  • Create initial designs, sketches, markups, and drawing revisions for ongoing projects.
  • Collaborate closely with Architecture, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical engineering teams to develop coordinated project designs.
  • Support both greenfield and brownfield construction projects.
  • Identify, communicate, and assist in resolving technical project issues.
  • Apply applicable industry codes, standards, and design requirements.
  • Complete engineering assignments within established budgets and project schedules.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control reviews.
  • Assist with construction administration activities including:
    • Requests for Information (RFIs)
    • Product data submittals
    • Shop drawing reviews
    • Fiber optic and copper cabling test result reviews
  • Support project teams to ensure successful project delivery and client satisfaction.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or another related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 3 years of telecommunications engineering, utility telecommunications, or related engineering experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles and practices across a broad range of assignments.
  • Working knowledge of telecommunications systems, design practices, and calculations.
  • Understanding of multidisciplinary engineering coordination and design processes.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Excel and engineering design software.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize new technologies, software platforms, and AI-enabled tools.
  • Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Consulting engineering experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Experience in telecommunications infrastructure design.
  • Experience supporting large multidisciplinary construction projects.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience using Bluebeam for document review, markups, and project coordination.
  • Strong understanding of structured cabling systems and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Demonstrated leadership through campus involvement, professional organizations, or community activities.
