Telecommunications Project Lead

Location: Portland, OR

About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Telecommunications Project Lead to join their growing team in Portland, Oregon. This role offers the opportunity to lead the design and delivery of telecommunications infrastructure projects supporting advanced commercial and mission-critical facilities. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, project leadership capabilities, and experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle.

As a Telecommunications Project Lead, you will be responsible for managing multiple concurrent projects while ensuring quality deliverables, schedule adherence, and client satisfaction. You will provide technical leadership for telecommunications systems design and work closely with engineers, BIM designers, project managers, clients, and vendors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead telecommunications design projects from concept development through construction support.
  • Perform preliminary assessments and develop system concepts and design solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership for structured cabling, wireless, audiovisual, and other low-voltage systems.
  • Coordinate and direct BIM designers in the preparation of engineering drawings and construction documents.
  • Develop, modify, and review Division 27 telecommunications specifications.
  • Conduct site visits and field investigations as required.
  • Review technical documentation and ensure compliance with applicable standards and project requirements.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocations.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, clients, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs), submittal reviews, and substitution requests.
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Support proposal development and responses to Requests for Proposal (RFPs).
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and within scope.
  • Participate in mentoring opportunities and collaborate with senior technical leaders.

Required Qualifications

  • Technical degree or Associate's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience actively designing or leading telecommunications structured cabling system designs.
  • Thorough knowledge of ANSI/TIA and BICSI standards.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) as it applies to telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Experience working with Navisworks.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Experience developing project budgets and maintaining project schedules.
  • Experience identifying and mitigating project and business risks.
  • Familiarity with responding to RFPs and supporting proposal efforts.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to coordinate effectively across disciplines, project teams, and clients.
  • RCDD certification or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing or supporting additional low-voltage systems, including:
    • Security Systems
    • Audio/Visual Systems
    • Wireless Communications Systems
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Hands-on experience installing telecommunications systems.
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing telecommunications testing results.
  • Experience troubleshooting telecommunications system installation issues in the field.
  • Familiarity with mission-critical, data center, or large commercial facility projects.
