Description of Job

JOB DESCRIPTION: Primary responsibility is to support the State Invasive Species Program through watercraft inspection & decontamination. Independently inspect and decontaminate boats voluntarily coming to the office site, with respect to invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels. The position will be responsible for regular

maintenance and proper use of the decontamination unit. The position will provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species by providing printed material to those visiting the office. Collection, preservation and proper documentation of possible ANS specimens brought into the office by customers.

Other duties include administrative work such as filing, maintaining inventory, managing the supply warehouse, answering phone calls, preparing materials for field trainings, loading and unloading vehicles, reviewing and editing technical reports, and participating in the development of maps, training materials, educational materials, and

protocol manuals. A large amount of data entry work is involved.

Hours will be from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. A small amount of weekend work is required.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A good driving record is mandatory.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are required
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences or comparable work experience.
  • Knowledge of boat and trailer anatomy, ability to trailer boats/decontamination (power washer) units on highways and steep mountain roads.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word applications- Word, Excel, Access.
  • Previous experience working in or managing a warehouse.
  • Previous experience performing administrative duties outlined above.
  • At least 6 months of experience performing data entry, with fast and accurate typing ability.

Pursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle.

To be compliant with the new fleet vehicle policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who:

  • Have an assigned State fleet vehicle

  • Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position

  • Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle
