Description

Be part of an organization dedicated to enhancing the practice of law and improving our community through programs that provide equal access to legal services. The Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF) has a strong commitment to employee work-life balance and provides a stimulating work environment. BASF currently has an exciting opportunity for a TemporarySchool-To-College (STC) Tutor (Writer).

BASF is a nonprofit organization and the oldest voluntary bar association in California. Today, over 7,000 San Francisco lawyers are members of BASF, which prides itself as being one of the most active and innovative local bar associations. Our offices are located in the Financial District. In addition to services and benefits to our members, BASF provides a variety of legal services to San Francisco residents including our Lawyer Referral and Information Service and Alternative Dispute Resolution programs

BASF also offers a variety of charitable programs through the Justice & Diversity Center, including the Homeless Advocacy Project, the Legal Services Program, Law Academy, School-To-College (STC), Destination Law School, and the Minority Law Student Scholarship programs.

School-To-College (STC) is a mentoring program that encourages diverse, at-risk, low-income and first-generation college-bound students to go to college and guides them through the college application process. STC works with students in grades 9 through 12 in the San Francisco Unified School District. STC's goal is to reduce the achievement gap and diversify college campuses. STC accomplishes this by providing counseling and academic advisement.

The STC Tutor will provide individual and group tutorial services to ethnically diverse and low-income high school students at Thurgood Marshall H.S.

The tutor will work with the STC Program Coordinator to assess the academic needs of the students and assist them with basic skills, homework assignments, study work, course material review in a group and one-on-one basis. The main focus will be in Writing. The tutor will also report on student progress on a weekly basis and produce student tracking reports. We encourage college students and individuals who have been involved in college readiness programs to apply.
