Overview: Quinnipiac Universitys Pre-College & Seasonal Programs invites applicants for the Temporary Summer Registered Nurse.
The RN/APRN is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all participants and staff. This position oversees the overnight residential Health Center, maintains all required medical documentation, ensures compliance with State of Connecticut Youth Camp Regulations, local health requirements, and responds to all camp medical needs, and supports a positive, youth-centered camp environment.
Must reside on-site for the duration of the camp season, including pre-camp training. The anticipated start date is June 1, 2026, and will end on August 1, 2026.

Responsibilities:
Pre-Season (June 1 - June 30):
- Reviews all summer participant health forms prior to camp opening;
- Contacts families regarding missing or incomplete paperwork.
Collaborate with the Medical Director to support First Aid familiarization and review incoming student medical records for counselors and residential staff who will be working directly with students.
During the preseason, this role can be performed hybrid and is up to 19 hours a week.
In Season (July 1 - August 1, 2026):
- Health Center & Medical Operations:
- Oversees evening healthcare operations for campers and staff in alignment with physician standing orders.
- Conducts health screenings at the beginning of each session;
- Meets with caregivers during check-in and reviews student plan of care in compliance with the State of Connecticut Regulations.
- Ensures all medications comply with state regulations and are administered as prescribed.
- Maintains confidentiality of all medical information and records.
- Administer medications in alignment with physician orders, including secure storage, documentation in a Medication Administration Record (MAR), and controlled substance tracking.
- Prepare and maintain off-site first aid kits for units, field trips, and specialty program areas; restock as needed.
- Serve as primary overnight medical response for on-site emergencies; support EMS activation and follow emergency procedures when necessary.
Safety, Compliance & Documentation:
- Maintains accurate health logs, MARs, Plan of Care documents, and other required medical records.
- Ensures all medications meet compliance requirements prior to acceptance, including labeling, original containers, and written authorization.
- Maintains confidentiality and ensures secure handling of medical records.
- Ensures the Health Center log is reviewed and signed weekly by the Camp Physician.
- Completes all accident, illness, and incident reports and communicates incidents to the Program Director promptly.
- Ensures compliance with State of CT Youth Camp Regulations and Quinnipiac University policies.
Emergency Response & Support:
- Remains on call and available to respond to overnight on-site medical emergencies.
- Provides care for injured or ill campers/staff and determines next steps based on standing orders.
- Maintains strong working knowledge of emergency procedures and assists with medical components of camp drills.
- Communicate health concerns, trends, or necessary precautions to the Program Director, Medical Director, and staff.
Health Center Management & Sanitation:
- Maintains the Health Center in a clean and sanitary condition.
- Ensures infection control practices are followed camp-wide.
- Restocks first aid kits, medical supplies, and Health Center inventory.
- Reports facility or equipment repair needs in a timely manner.
Training, Leadership & Camp Participation:
- Assists with planning and delivering pre-camp staff training, including first aid procedures and universal precautions.
- Attends scheduled advisory meetings to inform staff of health or behavioral considerations affecting programming.
- Participates in ongoing staff meetings, trainings, and communication efforts.
- Follows Quinnipiac University Staff Personnel Policies and maintains professional relationships with campers and staff.
- Performs additional duties as assigned to support camp operations.
Education Requirements:
- RN, APRN, LPN, Paramedic, or EMT (CT licensed)
- Current certifications required:
- First Aid
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED
- Medical Administration Certification including epi-pen and inhaler training (training provided if necessary)
Qualifications:
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse campers and staff.
- Experience working with children required; camp experience preferred.
- Demonstrates professionalism, sound judgment, and a positive, supportive presence.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to respond rapidly to emergencies.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person and via cell/radio.
Other Requirements:
- Room and board provided.
- Must reside on-site for the duration of the camp season, including pre-camp training.
- Must pass all background checks as required by the State of Connecticut.
- Work hours: Overnight shift required - see proposed schedule below.
Proposed Schedule:
RN position shall be assigned to the overnight shift, with the exception of Sundays, on which additional hours shall be required to facilitate student check-ins and the completion of required medical intakes.
