Job Description

TIG Welder

Pay: $27 - $36

Temp-to-hire

Openwork, formerly Meador Staffing, is seeking a skilled welder-fitter TIG Welder who can take a drawing, fit the parts, and lay down code-quality TIG welds on pressure-retaining components. • Weld by GTAW (TIG) on carbon steel and stainless steel, plus other alloys as jobs require
  • Weld to ASME Section VIII and Section IX requirements, following approved WPS parameters
  • Inspect your own work and keep up with visual, dye penetrant, hydrostatic, and radiographic test requirements
  • Keep traveler and weld records accurate so traceability stays intact
  • Keep your work area clean and safe, and help other shop staff when needed
  • Perform all duties assigned
Qualifications
  • Strong TIG welding skills on pipe and plate
  • Proven fitting ability, including blueprint reading and use of measuring and layout tools
  • Must pass a 6G pipe weld test at QTS expense (for the first test) before any offer is made. (We will allow the candidate to take it a second time at the candidate’s expense). No exceptions.
  • At least 2-3 years of pressure vessel, piping, or code fabrication experience (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of ASME Section IX, plus Section VIII or Section I
  • Comfort working with stainless and chrome-moly, and with purge and backing gas practices
  • Current continuity log or existing ASME qualifications
  • Experience in a high-mix, low-volume job shop
  • SMAW or GTAW/SMAW combination experience is a PLUS
  • Attention to detail and pride in clean, consistent work
  • Able to stand, bend, and work in all welding positions for long stretches
  • Able to lift to [80] lbs
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Reliable attendance and willingness to work regular overtime
  • Required PPE must be always worn

Schedule
