About the Job: In this role, you will design, develop, and release tooling solutions to support manufacturing build and production flows. You will resolve complex mechanical design challenges spanning assembly fixtures, material-handling equipment, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machinery. Managing tooling projects from concept through proof testing and commissioning, you will collaborate closely with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration teams to optimize hardware safety, quality, and production rate efficiency.
What We’re Looking For: Education & Experience
• B.S. degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace preferred) or equivalent work experience.
• 3+ years of direct manufacturing experience with a focus on tooling design, fabrication, and procurement.
• Proven proficiency in CAD modeling and drafting using Creo Parametric and Windchill CAD/PDM systems.
• Strong grasp of engineering fundamentals, free-body diagrams, load case identification, and classical hand calculations for common structural failure modes.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted refugee/asylee.
Must-Have Skills
• Tooling Design & ASME Y14.5: Expertise in creating and releasing 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 drafting standards and GD&T principles.
• Full Tooling Lifecycle Management: Experience driving tooling projects from concept, vendor selection, and procurement through fabrication, dimensional inspection, installation, and proof testing.
• Engineering Analysis & Validation: Demonstrated capability to define load cases, perform structural hand calculations, and validate tool safety and performance against requirements.
• Hardware Protection & RCCA: Ability to establish material-handling and packaging requirements to protect hardware, support repair/rework activities, and execute root cause analyses (RCCA) for nonconformances.
Nice-to-Have Skills (Preferred)
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and structural simulations (ANSYS Workbench Static Structural preferred).
• Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment: CNC machining, manual mills and lathes, structural welding, sheet-metal bending, lifting/rigging, assembly, and inspection.
• Proficiency in tolerance stack-up analysis, Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA), transitioning hardware into rate production.
• Design, create, and release CAD models and engineering drawings for simple tooling in accordance with ASME Y14.5 design and drafting standards.
• Solve technical design challenges involving assembly fixtures, material-handling equipment, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machinery.
• Manage tooling projects from concept through commissioning, including vendor selection, procurement, fabrication, inspection, installation, and proof testing.
• Establish procurement and fabrication priorities and communicate them clearly to the team.
• Define and support repair and rework activities.
• Perform root cause analyses for nonconformances and implement corrective actions.
• Develop appropriate material-handling and packaging requirements to protect hardware.
• Collaborate with component designers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Integration Engineering to optimize safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, service life, and maintainability.
