Job Summary
The Total Loss Adjuster is responsible for investigating, evaluating, and resolving auto claims in which the vehicle has been deemed a total loss. This role involves managing the claim process through final settlement, ensuring compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements and delivering excellent customer service to policyholders and claimants. This is an in-office role based out of our Boston, MA office.
Responsibilities
Evaluates total loss appraisals to effect settlement within authority
Review and analyze auto damage estimates, repair feasibility, and market values to determine total loss status
Determine actual cash value of vehicles using industry valuation tools and market research
Negotiates vehicle value with 1st and 3rd parties and their representatives
Controls salvage costs and resolution
Works with manager to resolve difficult situations
Prepare and issue settlement offers in accordance with company guidelines and state regulations
Negotiate settlements within authority limits and escalate when needed
Maintain accurate and detailed claim files in the company's claims management system
Performs other activities as required
College degree or equivalent work experience required
1+ years of auto claims handling experience, with total loss experience strongly preferred
Ability to manage multiple claims and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong customer service orientation with the ability to handle sensitive situations professionally
Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and communication skills
