Job Description

The Transportation Specialist provides safe, reliable, and customer‑focused non‑medical transportation and paratransit services for clients traveling to and from medical facilities. Operating under the direction of Valley Medical Transport's Dispatch Center and Team Leader, this role ensures high‑quality service delivery by transporting ambulatory, stretcher and wheelchair‑bound clients, maintaining strict safety standards, and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities and Duties

Provide specialized wheelchair and stretcher van transportation, non‑emergency ambulance assistance, and general client support.

Ensure proper loading, securing, and transfer of all clients.

Follow all regulatory guidelines and safety policies 100% of the time.

Ensure all clients, passengers, and mobility devices are properly secured at all times.

Perform non‑emergency ambulance operations and assist ambulance attendants as needed.

Obtain accurate directions to client locations and medical facilities.

Meet scheduled pickup and appointment times as established.

Maintain vehicle readiness and cleanliness in accordance with organizational standards.

Communicate frequently and effectively with the Dispatch Center using approved communication tools, ensuring compliance with transport procedures.

Immediately report any issues that may delay pickups or appointment times.

Collaborate appropriately with Division management, physicians, nurses, and staff regarding transportation operations.

Complete daily and monthly vehicle checklists.

Report findings and recommend repairs or replacement of safety equipment and supplies to leadership team members.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience

Experience in the use of adaptive equipment and wheelchair lift systems, as well as providing care and support for older adults and individuals with disabilities, is preferred.

Certification & Licensure

Required to satisfy and maintain the requirements for a valid driver's license.

A DOT equivalent physical examination to obtain and maintain a Medical Examiner's Certification, as well as submit a periodic drug screening, as defined by applicable federal, state, and VH policies, is required.

Trauma Informed Care Training is required by 8/7/2027 for all employees hired on or before 6/7/2026, and within 12 months of hire for employees hired after 6/7/2026.

Suicide and Crisis Intervention Training is required by 8/7/2027 for all employees hired on or before 6/7/2026, and within 12 months of hire for employees hired after 6/7/2026.

Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) is required by 8/6/2026 for all employees hired on or before 6/7/2026, and within 60 days of hire for all employees hired after 6/7/2026. EVOC will be provided during orientation.

BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved is required within 60 days of hire.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required by 8/6/2026 for all employees hired on or before 6/7/2026, and within 60 days of hire for all employees hired after 6/7/2026.

First Aid is required by 8/6/2026 for all employees hired on or before 6/7/2026, and within 60 days of hire for all employees hired after 6/7/2026.

Emergency Medical Vehicle Operator Certification (EMVO) is required by 6/7/2027 for all employees hired on or before 6/7/2026, and within 12 months of hire for employees hired after 6/7/2026.

Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age.

Must maintain a driving record that is acceptable with the company's insurance carrier.
