Description

American Traveler is hiring a Cardiac Telemetry RN for a fast-paced primary cardiac and stroke unit requiring 2 years of Cardiac Tele experience and NC or Compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Hospital-based Cardiac Telemetry unit serving as the primary cardiac and stroke unit
  • Patient population includes stable pre/post care for pacemaker implantation, ICD placement, cardiac catheterization, and TR bands
  • Manages unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, and new CVA/TIA patients
  • Runs multiple cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone with titration capability
  • High patient turnover unit averaging 78-90 patients per week
  • Target ratio of 1:5-6 with potential surge to 6 patients
  • Unit includes a dedicated team lead to assist with admissions and discharges
  • Uses telemetry monitoring, pulse ox, high flow O2, and BIPAP (chronic use only)
  • Charts in EPIC (Dimensions) with Pyxis medication system and SBAR communication
  • 12-hour night shift schedule from 18:45-07:15
  • 36 hours per week can be offered
  • 13-26 week contract lengths accepted
  • Self-scheduling with leadership oversight; no block scheduling
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend, plus 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays within a 6-week period
  • On-call requirement with frequency based on patient census
  • Floating required within or near the facility

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience required (hard requirement for all skills)
  • First-time travelers considered with required 2 years of Cardiac Tele experience
  • EPIC charting experience preferred
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, peripheral line care, cardiac drip management, and cardiac monitoring with dysrhythmia interpretation/management
  • Experience with pacemakers, post cardiac angiogram/MI care, and pre/post cardiac cath and surgery required

Additional Information

  • Provide bedside care for stable pre/post cardiac and stroke intervention patients in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment
  • Unit currently houses COVID-positive patients using opti-flow and BIPAP, with a dedicated 23-bed side for COVID surge capacity
  • 36 hours of unit orientation required, with availability needed every day during week one for hospital orientation
  • Pre-start modules required (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online and annually
  • Scrub requirements include navy blue or white scrubs, Novant t-shirts permitted, matching jackets (no fleece), and no crocs with holes
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment or after signing
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units with separate schedules and independent transportation
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with disclosure and facility approval required
  • Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status, as both are not permitted simultaneously
