Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring 3 years of ICU experience with 1 year in CVICU and a WI or compact RN license.

Details

• Level II Trauma Center with Level III NICU, Magnet designation, and Comprehensive Stroke Center
• 30-bed Critical Care CVICU unit
• Patient population includes post-op CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs/replacement, heart transplants, pacemaker placements, thoracic surgeries (esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, lobectomy), and vascular surgeries (AAA, TVAR, carotid endarterectomy)
• RN patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 for regular ICU status and 1:3 for mixed status, with tech support at 1:8-10
• 12-hour day or night shifts from 0700-1900 or 1900-0700
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to ED Holding, other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU (1:3 ratio), sitter duties, and PACU surge
• Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors
• Bedside/nurses station telemetry monitoring without dedicated tele tech support

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• CCRN certification preferred
• Minimum 3 years of ICU experience with at least 1 year of CVICU experience required
• Competency in invasive line monitoring (Swan Ganz, a-lines), pacemaker management (epicardial, transvenous), chest tubes, cardiac medication administration (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• RN required to draw from invasive lines; peripheral sticks not permitted
• EPIC EMR experience required
• CV surgical experience (ECMO, CVVH, IABP, VAD) preferred
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Candidate's middle name/initial, DOB, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Support team includes charge nurse (rarely with patient assignment), 24/7 HUC, dedicated CVICU Intensivist, on-call CT Surgeon, onsite Hospitalist, General Intensivist, and ICU-designated RT
• Phlebotomy team assists with peripheral blood draws
• One day of orientation including 2-4 hours of NEO with supervisor/nurse educator, followed by preceptor-guided unit orientation
• 6-week schedule cycle, with schedule provided 1-2 weeks in advance
• Facility fatigue policy limits staff, including travelers, to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
• Holiday coverage required for 1-2 holidays per contract
• RTO approval available for up to 7 days
• Scrub requirements: any solid, professional color with no graphics, logos, or designs
• Free parking available with shuttle service for day shift and attached parking structure for night shift
• First-time travelers welcome if minimum experience requirements are met
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
• Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignments
