CVICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced CVICU Registered Nurse to join our dedicated team in a high-acuity environment that specializes in post-operative cardiac care. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in critical care nursing, specifically in managing complex cardiovascular cases.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver patient care in the CVICU, primarily for post-open heart recovery and related procedures.
• Manage patients with advanced medical devices such as ECMO, IABP, LVAD, and CRRT.
• Perform assessments, develop care plans, and monitor patient responses.
• Administer medications and titrate cardiac drips as needed.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Provide education and support to patients and their families.
• Adhere to all safety, hygiene, and infection control protocols.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of CC experience in a CVICU setting.
• Prior experience with open heart recovery is essential.
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as traveling nurses.
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.
• Must have skills in interpreting and managing dysrhythmias.

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• Ability to access and manage ports and assist with chest tube insertion/removal.
• Experience with ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC).
• Knowledge of advanced cardiac assessments and interventions.

Working Conditions

• Target patient-to-nurse ratios: 1:1 at night and 2:1 on weekends.
• Shift hours: Days from 06:45 to 19:15.
• Available for 36 or 48 hours per week, with the option of 13-26 week contracts.
• Float requirement is included; weekend coverage is expected every other weekend.

Unit Details

The CVICU specializes in caring for patients post open heart surgery, including thoracotomies, esophagogastrectomies, and transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVR).

Unit systems in use include SBAR, EPIC, and PYXIS for medication administration and documentation.

Orientation and Attire

Unit orientation is required, and the traveler must be available for classes throughout the first week. Scrubs should be navy or white, or a combination of both.
