Job Description:
The CVOR Tech is a vital member of the surgical team, specializing in cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries. This role involves preparing and maintaining the sterile field, handling surgical instruments, and assisting surgeons during complex procedures to ensure safe and efficient patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and set up the cardiovascular operating room, ensuring all necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment are available and sterile.
Assist the surgical team during procedures such as CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting), valve replacement, aortic aneurysm repair, and other open-heart or thoracic surgeries.
Operate and maintain specialized surgical equipment (e.g., cell savers, endoscopic vein harvest systems).
Anticipate surgeon’s needs by passing instruments, sponges, sutures, and supplies.
Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique and infection control practices.
Assist in patient positioning and draping to ensure accessibility and safety.
Account for surgical instruments, sponges, and needles before, during, and after surgery.
Collaborate with circulating nurses, anesthesiologists, and perfusionists for seamless surgical flow.
Document usage of surgical supplies and equipment as required.
Qualifications:
Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent required.
1–2 years of experience as a CVOR Tech or in an operating room setting; cardiovascular surgery experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge of cardiovascular surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile technique.
BLS required; ACLS preferred (depending on facility).
