Standard nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4

• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• CPI/MOAB (Crisis Prevention Institute / Management of Assaultive Behavior)
• Traveler Competency Exam

Essential Skills

• Strong general ED experience
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation
• IV skills
• Knowledge of medication administration and drips
• Procedural sedation capabilities
• Blood administration
• Administration of cardiac medications
• Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system

Support on the Unit

• ER Technicians for support with glucose checks and splinting
• Charge Nurse (rarely takes patient assignments)
• Resource/Float Nurse (as needed based on staffing)
• Respiratory Therapists available 24/7
• ED Educator on-site
• Security available 24/7 for safety
• House Supervisor available 24/7
• Pharmacy on-site 24/7, assisting in codes

Charting System/Equipment

• Electronic Medical Record: Epic (required)
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Medication Dispensing System: Pyxis
• Central and bedside telemetry monitoring available; no telemetry technician assigned

Floating Opportunities

Regular floating may occur between multiple locations within the region. Prior notification will be provided before the start of shifts. Mid-shift floating is possible but not routine.

Orientation Process

• First day: New Employee Orientation (badge issuance, EPIC training if needed), introduction to educator
• Three to four 12-hour shifts with a designated preceptor on assigned shifts
• Traveler Telemetry Competency is mandatory and must be completed and passed prior to the start of employment.

Scheduling Information

Shifts available:

• Day Shifts (0700-1900, 0900-2100)
• Mid Shifts (1100-2300, 1300-0100)
• Evening/Night Shifts (1500-0300, 1900-0700)
