Emergency Room Nurse Job Requirements
- Current, active Colorado Registered Nurse license or compact RN license
- At least 1 year of emergency department, emergency room, or critical care nursing experience
- Two years of hospital nursing experience preferred
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required or obtainable within six months
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification required or obtainable within one year
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification required or obtainable within one year
- STABLE and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications required or obtainable within one year
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field preferred
- Ability to successfully complete required background, health, and screening processes
- Strong clinical judgment, prioritization, communication, and documentation skills
Emergency Nursing Responsibilities
- Assess patients and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care
- Prioritize care and respond decisively in a fast-paced emergency department environment
- Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care within professional standards and the Colorado Nurse Practice Act
- Coordinate patient treatment, transfers, discharges, referrals, and follow-up care with the interdisciplinary team
- Monitor patient progress and communicate changes promptly to providers and members of the care team
- Provide patient and family education tailored to age, culture, condition, and individual learning needs
- Identify and address communication barriers and psychosocial support needs
- Delegate appropriately to ancillary staff and contribute to a collaborative emergency care environment
- Maintain accurate documentation, patient confidentiality, infection prevention, and safety standards
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, required training, and ongoing professional development
