Description

American Traveler is hiring a Level 1 Trauma Center Emergency Department RN for a 13-week evening shift assignment requiring active IL RN license and prior travel experience preferred.

Details

• Level 1 Trauma Center Emergency Department in an acute care hospital setting
• 65-bed unit with all private rooms and 2 dedicated trauma bays
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-5, variable based on acuity and department needs
• Patient population spans all ages from newborns to elderly with a wide variety of complaints, including critically ill patients, cardiac arrest, strokes, and heart attacks
• Level 1/2 trauma patients are managed in the trauma bay by a specialized trauma team; travelers may care for stabilized trauma patients once transferred to a pod
• Utilizes EPIC EMR
• 12-hour evening shifts (1p-1a)
• Every other weekend rotation required (Sat/Sun for most shifts, Fri/Sat for 7a-7p shift)
• Holiday coverage required every other holiday or based on department needs, negotiable based on contract
• No call or standby requirements
• Rare floating possible as a 'help all' to other units, primarily affecting staff rather than travelers
• Uses Phillips cardiac monitors with orientation provided to travelers
• Respiratory therapists assist with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow equipment
• Nurses and techs draw labs, with phlebotomy assisting for boarders
• Nurses do not self-schedule but may submit time-off requests for review
• Block scheduling available, typically 2-on/4-off with alternating weekends

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
• At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC or TNS
• Proficiency in vasopressor drips, cardiac drips, and antihypertensive drug titration required
• Ability to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms, including recognition of life-threatening arrhythmias
• SANE RN experience preferred
• Experience at a teaching hospital with residents preferred
• Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Additional Information

• Care for a broad range of ED patients from minor complaints to critically ill and trauma cases
• Support provided by a minimum of 3 attending physicians at all times, plus mid-levels depending on time of day
• Two charge nurses per shift manage incoming patients/telemetry and department needs, often assisting as a second nurse for traumas or critical patients
• 24/7 house supervisor coverage available
• ED techs support the unit at a 1:9 ratio
• Monitor tech available, though nurses are expected to interpret their own cardiac rhythms
• 12 hours of non-billable orientation provided
• Local rate available for clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility, with no radius rule restricting eligibility
• Tasteful scrubs required with solid colored shirts underneath, no specific color mandated
• COVID vaccination is not required for this facility
