Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for an Emergency Department position requiring Level I Trauma Center experience and a compact or CT RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Emergency Department of a Level I Trauma Center at a short-term acute care hospital
  • General ED serving combined adult/pediatric populations
  • STEMI and Stroke Certified facility
  • Average patient ratio of 1:6 for both day and night shifts
  • Night shift schedule (4x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • Primarily assigned to one campus with possibility of crosstraining and floating to other campuses and ED observation units
  • No on-call requirements
  • Travelers do not staff trauma/rescue rooms, triage, or locked behavioral health units
  • Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Compact or CT State license) required
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, NIHSS
  • Preferred certifications: CPI, ENPC, PALS
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, 1.5 years accepted from a Level I Trauma facility or with travel experience
  • Level I Trauma experience required
  • Level II Trauma experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Pending license accepted for consideration
  • Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted
  • COVID vaccine and booster required, with religious or medical exemptions only

Additional Information

  • Deliver emergency nursing care across a wide range of acute and trauma presentations, including gunshot wounds, traumatic amputations, and multisystem organ dysfunction
  • Manage cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and 12-lead EKG acquisition
  • Provide care for psychiatric emergencies including acute psychosis, suicidal patients, and managing violent behavior
  • Perform IV therapy, phlebotomy, arterial line management, and blood product administration
  • Skilled in respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP management, intubation, and ABG interpretation
  • Experience with neurological emergencies such as CVA, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury
  • Apply splints and manage orthopedic trauma cases as needed
  • Utilize isolation precautions and PPE per facility protocol
  • Contracts of 13-26 weeks will be considered
  • Open to accommodating block scheduling
  • RTO requests greater than 7 days require additional approval
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
  • Local candidates are not accepted; candidates must live outside a 75-mile radius of the facility
  • Returning staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 2 years to be considered as a traveler
  • One reference required for consideration
  • Travelers are expected to participate in natural disaster or emergency response activities as needed
