Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ER RN with pediatric and critical care skills for a 13-week assignment at a community hospital emergency department.

Details

• General Emergency Department serving combined adult and pediatric populations
• STEMI and Stroke Certified Facility
• 1:4 patient ratios
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (10:00-22:00) with varied start times of 10a, 11a, and 12p
• Every third weekend required, or 8 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule combining Friday/Saturday/Sunday
• Floating required to all SLHS Metro EDs, including between departments, units, and facilities as needed
• Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed per unit
• No on-call requirements
• Epic charting system required
• Community hospital with 240 staffed beds across 32 rooms

Requirements

• Active MO RN license (Standard or Compact) required
• Both Kansas and Missouri licenses or compact required in hand at time of consideration due to floating requirements
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS
• Minimum 2 years of recent ER experience required, with a full year in-specialty within the past 12 months and no employment gaps greater than 90 days
• Previous Charge RN experience required
• Travel experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Proficiency in pediatric emergency care including abdominal pain, asthma, burns, epiglottitis, head injury, hyperglycemia, abuse identification/reporting, infections, behavioral health conditions, poison ingestion, respiratory infections, seizures, sickle cell crisis, skin disorders, and UTIs
• Proficiency in psychiatric emergency care including acute psychosis, drug overdose, managing violent behavior, psychiatric holds, and suicidal patients
• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills including arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, phlebotomy, and IV starts
• Respiratory skills including chest tube insertion/management, CPAP/BiPAP, ABG interpretation, intubation assistance, and ventilated patient care
• Experience administering continuous IV paralytics, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and IV vasopressors
• CVA management experience
• Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation/management, multisystem organ dysfunction management, and 12-lead EKG acquisition
• Isolation precautions/PPE and triage proficiency
• Splinting skills
• SSN required at time of consideration
• RTO and scheduling requests must be finalized at time of consideration
• Two professional references required within the past year, one from a supervisor or above and one from a charge RN

Additional Information

• Provide emergency care across a broad range of pediatric, psychiatric, respiratory, cardiac, and trauma presentations
• Navy scrub color required
• Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
• Maximum RTO of 7 days
• First-time travelers are not accepted
• Returning staff must have an 18-month tenure with a required 3-month break in service; permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a travaler
• Procedural sedation administration and near-drowning pediatric experience preferred
