Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a high-acuity Emergency Department position requiring stroke experience and a CA RN license.

Details

• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-7:30
• High acuity, high volume Emergency Department with no trauma designation
• Approximately 230 visits per day across 36 beds with overflow units
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Treats all ages with a focus on Geriatric and Adult patients, with 10% pediatric cases transported to CHOC
• Case load includes respiratory, stroke, abdominal pain, cardiac, and sepsis patients
• Designated Stroke and STEMI Center
• Magnet Designated facility
• Required to work weekends, which may exceed every other weekend to meet unit needs, including at least 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule cycle
• No on-call requirements
• Required to float to Tele Hold and ICU Hold units as needed
• Facility may call off shifts once per two-week pay period

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required, compact license must be in hand at time of submission
• Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, and PALS
• TNCC and CEN or CPN certifications preferred
• Minimum 1.5 years of ER specialty experience required, with 2 years preferred
• If using 1.5 years of experience, must include at least one year consistently at a single facility (per diem assignments do not qualify)
• Epic EMR experience highly preferred
• Stroke experience required
• Limited pediatric experience is acceptable
• Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, starting and maintaining IVs, medication administration, emergency medications, IV insulin protocols, IV vasopressors, neurological and CVA care, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, management of multisystem organ dysfunction, 12-lead EKG/ECG, isolation precautions/PPE, and triage
• Central line care/management, continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation administration/monitoring, splint application, and suicidal patient management preferred
• Experience with titration of drips required
• 2 references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years required, may include Charge RNs or Leads
• Full SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide emergency care across a wide range of acute conditions including stroke, cardiac, sepsis, and respiratory cases in a Stroke and STEMI Certified facility
• Must reside within a 50-mile local radius; candidates within this radius may be considered at a local rate
• Former permanent staff must wait at least 3 months before returning as a traveler and cannot be within 50 miles of the facility
• Must commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
• RTO requests must be submitted upfront at time of consideration; post-offer RTO requests may not be granted
• Travelers may be required to float to sister facilities within the system; refusal to float may result in termination of assignment
• First-time travelers are not accepted unless they demonstrate a strong skill set and experience
• RN scrub color is Royal Blue
• Charting is done in Meditech, though Epic experience is preferred for this role
