Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for an ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.

Details

  • Hospital-based mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU)
  • Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
  • Cardiac experience preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR patients 24–48 hours post-op
  • Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3
  • 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
  • Every-other-weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor, including Med/Surg or Tele, at a 1:4 ratio
  • Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter pumps) and Omnicell also in use

Requirements

  • Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) or Compact license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience, strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic lines; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry monitoring
  • Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
  • At least one prior travel assignment required — first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 Charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), Respiratory Therapy available 24/7, and a physician team of 3 Intensivists on days and 2 on nights plus an APP on nights
  • Orientation includes a hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation and iLearns session, one 4-hour iLearns completion session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Free parking available on site
  • No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise
  • Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
  • Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • May be expected to occasionally precept students
