Description

American Traveler is hiring a Neuro ICU RN for a night shift assignment requiring an active MD or Compact RN license and 2+ years of ICU experience, with Neuro ICU background highly preferred.

Details

• Work in the Neuro ICU of a hospital setting
• 22-bed unit with an average daily census of 21 patients
• Adult and geriatric patient population
• Patient ratio of 1:2, up to 1:3 with stable, lower acuity patients
• Common diagnoses include acute ischemic stroke, ICH, SAH, TBI, status epilepticus, brain tumors, cerebral edema, hydrocephalus, spinal cord injury, neuromuscular disorders, CNS infections, and post-craniotomy care
• Utilizes ICP monitors, EVDs, continuous EEG, mechanical ventilators, arterial line monitoring, central venous catheters, infusion/syringe pumps, bedside ultrasound, telemetry, cooling devices for targeted temperature management, SCDs, and specialty ICU beds
• Epic charting system experience preferred
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (19:00-07:30), 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required as scheduled
• Floating required within specialty to lower acuity units as needed
• On-call may be required

Requirements

• Active RN license (MD or Compact) required
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA only) required
• CPI and NIHSS certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Neuro ICU experience highly preferred
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, blood product administration, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Experience with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and care of ventilated patients
• Experience managing EVDs, ICP monitoring, and post-craniotomy/neurosurgery patients
• Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and 12-lead EKG acquisition

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to complex neurological and neurosurgical ICU patients
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility to be considered for the travel rate unless local acceptance is specifically noted
• Floating is required within scope with no restrictions, and travelers are typically first to float
• First-time travelers will be considered if they have strong Neuro ICU skill and experience
• Returning travelers must have been away from the health system for at least 6 months since their last assignment
• Former staff must wait 12 months before returning as a traveler
• Most units allow one contract extension before requiring a 6-month break from the facility
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested, with additional scheduling rules applying if more than 4 consecutive days are requested
