Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring 2 years of experience and an active MD or Compact RN license.

Details

• Work in the Neuro ICU of a hospital environment
• 22-bed unit with an average daily census of 21 patients
• Adult and geriatric patient population
• Patient ratio of 1:2, up to 1:3 with stable, lower acuity patients
• Common diagnoses include acute ischemic stroke, ICH, SAH, TBI, status epilepticus, brain tumors, cerebral edema, hydrocephalus, spinal cord injury, neuromuscular disorders, CNS infections, and post-craniotomy patients
• Uses specialized equipment including ICP monitors, EVDs, continuous EEG, mechanical ventilators, arterial line monitoring, central venous catheters, bedside ultrasound, telemetry, and targeted temperature management cooling devices
• Epic charting system experience preferred
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (19:00-07:30), 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required as scheduled
• Floating required within specialty to lower acuity units as needed
• On-call requirements to be confirmed

Requirements

• Active RN license, MD or Compact, required at time of consideration
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA only)
• CPI and NIHSS certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Prior charge experience preferred
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• First-time travelers will be considered if they have strong Neuro ICU skill and experience
• Skills required include IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, ventilator management, CVA/acute stroke management, EVD management, ICP monitoring, and post-craniotomy/neurosurgery care
• Additional preferred skills include PICC line management, TPN/lipids administration, CRRT, chemotherapy administration, EVD and lumbar drain management, hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to complex neurological and neurosurgical patients in a high-acuity ICU setting
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Travelers are expected to float within their specialty scope with priority given to travel staff
• Locals residing under 50 miles from the facility are not accepted unless otherwise specified
• Maximum of 7 days RTO can be requested; if more than 4 consecutive days are requested, an additional week must be added to the end of the contract
• One major holiday off during the winter season may be permitted depending on unit needs
• Returning travelers must have been away from the health system for at least 6 months since their last assignment
• Former staff members must have been separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
• Typically only one contract extension is allowed before a required 6-month break from the facility or unit
