Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 20-week travel contract in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5-2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.

Details

  • Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
  • Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
  • Cardiac experience preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR post-op (24-48 hrs); fresh open heart cases are not assigned to travelers
  • Patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2; 1:3 ratio is rare and acuity-dependent
  • Experienced with Impella, IABP, and CRRT is strongly preferred
  • Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell also in use
  • 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed

Requirements

  • Active RN license — SD license or a Compact RN license valid in South Dakota required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start if not already held)
  • Minimum 1.5-2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience; candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Proficiency with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry monitoring
  • Strong critical thinking, clinical assessment, and teamwork skills required; must be comfortable in a fast-paced, all-critical-care environment
  • Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
  • Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Unit support includes 1-2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 Charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a Resource Nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 Respiratory Therapy coverage, and a robust physician presence (3 Intensivists on days, 2 on nights, plus an APP on nights)
  • ICU Charge RNs handle midline placements; phlebotomy support available for peripheral blood draws only
  • Orientation consists of a hospital orientation day followed by one 12-hour shift and one 8-hour shift on the ICU
  • No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, with the requirement that the contract be extended to fulfill the full term
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Free parking available on site
  • First-time travelers will not be considered; a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required
  • Permanent staff who have previously worked at this facility must wait one year before returning as a traveler
