Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (ICU) position requiring prior ICU and travel experience with a 48-hour weekly commitment.

Details

  • 39-bed mixed ICU unit (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) divided into pods
  • Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
  • Common diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
  • Cardiac experience preferred, including 24-48 hour post-op care for CABG/TAVR patients
  • Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3 depending on acuity
  • 12-hour night shifts totaling 48 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation targeted at every other weekend, though not guaranteed
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating is uncommon but may occur to adult floors including Med-Surg/Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed
  • ICU RNs may be qualified to float to the ED, and PCU RNs to the ICU
  • Uses Epic charting system, Alaris (transitioning to Baxter pumps in October), and Omnicell
  • 24/7 respiratory therapy support and CNA/nurse aide support available on the unit
  • Charge nurse (CRN) oversight across all ICUs and resource nurse support based on staffing

Requirements

  • Active RN license (South Dakota or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required (TNCC must be obtained prior to arrival if not already held)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, excluding travel experience
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics required
  • Experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry required
  • Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
  • Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment required
  • Must be comfortable working a 48-hour per week contract

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to complex ICU patients across multiple specialties
  • May be expected to precept nursing students
  • Minimum one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
  • Former permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
  • Orientation includes hospital and department orientation, iLearns modules, and floor shifts
  • No RTO permitted during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August)
  • Time off requests up to 7 days may be approved, with contract extension required to meet a full 13-week term
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking provided on-site
  • Facility is known for being traveler-friendly and frequently renews travel contracts
