Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a mixed ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.

Details

  • Mixed ICU setting comprised of MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU pods within a 39-bed unit
  • Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma diagnoses such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
  • Heavy trauma population; cardiac experience (CABG/TAVR, 24–48 hrs post-op) is preferred but not required
  • Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3, based on acuity
  • Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell also in use
  • 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
  • Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio
  • No on-call requirements

Requirements

  • Active RN license — SD or Compact state license required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (required prior to start)
  • Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel assignments; candidates with 1.5 years ICU experience plus significant non-ICU RN experience may be considered
  • At least one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
  • Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry
  • Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
  • Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
  • Two references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include caring for critically ill patients across surgical, medical, cardiac, and trauma populations
  • Fresh open-heart cases are not assigned to travelers unless the facility has verified sufficient experience
  • Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, and intensivist/APP coverage around the clock
  • Orientation includes hospital orientation, two 12-hour floor orientation shifts, and dedicated time for department orientation and iLearns modules
  • May be expected to precept nursing students
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Free parking available on-site
  • No RTO during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved, but requests requiring a contract extension must accommodate a full 13-week term
  • Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning to this facility as a traveler
