Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Labor & Delivery position on night shift, requiring 2 years of L&D experience and Advanced AWHONN EFM certification at a Level 1 trauma and Level 3 perinatal center.

Details

  • Acute care setting within the L&D unit of a Level 1 trauma center and Level 3 perinatal center
  • Unit includes 9 LDR beds, 2 OR suites for C-sections, 1 PACU, 6 L&D triage rooms, and an 18-bed antepartum unit
  • 36-bed postpartum unit with an average daily adult census of 18 and infant census of 14
  • Patient population includes high-risk pregnant patients, vaginal and cesarean deliveries, and cerclage placements
  • Follows AWHONN nurse-to-patient ratio guidelines: 1:1 for Pitocin induction and active labor, 2 RNs:1 patient for vaginal and cesarean deliveries, 1:1 PACU, and 1 RN:3 patients in L&D triage
  • Uses Epic EMR and Epic Stork/Obix electronic fetal monitoring system with Phillips monitors
  • 12-hour night shifts
  • Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7
  • In-house labor hospitalist 24/7 and newborn hospitalist coverage with NICU support at night
  • Support staff includes 1 PCT in L&D triage and 2-3 surgical techs per shift
  • Floating required to Postpartum (5-6 patient team) and Antepartum (3 high-risk, intermittent EFM patients) units only
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Weekend rotation of every 3rd weekend, working Friday/Saturday nights

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), NRP, and Advanced AWHONN Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D experience preferred
  • Proficiency in high-risk OB patient care required
  • Must be able to manage Magnesium and Insulin drips and titrate Pitocin, Magnesium, and Insulin
  • Must be able to circulate cesarean sections in the OR and recover patients in PACU
  • Must be proficient in newborn care for both vaginal and cesarean deliveries
  • BSN not required for this position

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include providing direct patient care for high-risk OB patients, assisting with vaginal and cesarean deliveries, and newborn care
  • Surgical scrubs are provided on the unit
  • Unit-specific orientation typically consists of 3 shifts
  • Holiday coverage required every other holiday, totaling 6 holidays per year for night shift
  • If not scheduled for an assigned holiday, staff may be asked to work the day before or after unless other arrangements are made with unit leadership
  • Local candidates accepted, with a reduced local rate applying to clinicians residing within 50 miles of the facility
  • Negative drug screen required as facility is a Drug-Free Campus
  • Cancellation policy allows for the equivalent of 12 hours off per 13-week assignment without penalty
