Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a Level 1 trauma center requiring advanced fetal monitoring certification and a minimum of 2 years L&D experience.

Details

  • Acute care setting in a Labor & Delivery unit with 9 LDR rooms, 2 OR suites, 1 PACU, 6 triage rooms, an 18-bed antepartum unit, and 36 private postpartum rooms
  • Patient population includes pregnant and high-risk pregnant patients receiving vaginal deliveries, cesarean deliveries, and cerclage placements
  • Follows AWHONN staffing ratios: 1:1 for Pitocin induction and active labor, 2 RN:1 patient for vaginal and cesarean deliveries, 1:1 PACU, and 1 RN:3 patients for L&D triage
  • Uses EPIC as the charting system and Epic Stork with Phillips monitors for electronic fetal monitoring (Obix)
  • 12-hour night shifts
  • Weekend rotation required every 3rd weekend (Fri/Sat on nights)
  • Holiday coverage required every other holiday, totaling 6 holidays per year for night shift
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Floating required to Postpartum (team of 5-6 patients) and Antepartum (3 high-risk, intermittent EFM monitoring patients) units
  • Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage available 24/7
  • Support staff includes 1 PCT in L&D triage and 2-3 surgical techs per shift
  • Labor hospitalist in house 24/7 and newborn hospitalist coverage daily with NICU support at night

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
  • Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS (AHA), NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D experience preferred
  • Level 1 trauma center and Level 3 perinatal center experience required
  • Must be proficient in the care of high-risk OB patients
  • Must be able to manage Magnesium and Insulin drips, including titration
  • Must be able to circulate cesarean sections in the OR and recover patients in PACU
  • Must be proficient in newborn care for both vaginal and cesarean deliveries
  • Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels as OSF is a Drug-Free Campus

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care for high-risk OB patients across labor, delivery, and postpartum stages
  • Titrate Pitocin, Magnesium, and Insulin drips as part of routine patient care
  • Surgical scrubs are provided on the unit
  • Unit-specific orientation typically consists of 3 shifts
  • Block scheduling accommodated for travelers to the best of the facility's ability
  • Local candidates accepted with a local rate applied for clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
  • COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
