Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a float pool role at a Level II Trauma Center, requiring at least 18 months of MedSurg/ICU experience and an active AL or compact RN license.

Details

  • Staff Float Pool position covering multiple Med/Surg and specialty units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Oncology, Clinical Decision Unit, Orthopedics, and Urology/ENT
  • Patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on unit
  • Units cover diverse patient populations including general surgery, vascular, neuroscience, oncology, orthopedic, and general medical cases
  • Telemetry monitored by dedicated techs, with RNs required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
  • 12-hour night shifts, 36-48 hours per week, 7:00pm start
  • Shift times are 7a-7p and 7p-7a on a 4-week self-scheduling cycle using Smart Square
  • Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month)
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to like units/patient types (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds, ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task limited to 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds)
  • Uses Cerner EMR (preferred), Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors

Requirements

  • Active RN license (AL or Compact) required
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience required
  • Cerner or Epic experience required; Cerner specifically required for candidates with strictly ICU background
  • Skills may include wound care, chest tube care, NGT, PEG, trach care, IV starts, central line care, ostomy/colostomy care, and medication administration depending on assigned unit
  • Chemo certification preferred for Oncology unit assignments

Additional Information

  • Assigned to a home unit on the first day of orientation
  • New-to-facility travelers or returning travelers absent 1+ years receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on-unit training
  • Unit support includes CNAs, charge nurses, receptionist/HUC, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalist, and telemetry monitoring techs
  • Holiday coverage expected for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though not guaranteed off in advance
  • Time off requests may be approved for up to 7 days, excluding facility blackout dates
  • Any scrub color permitted
  • Parking available in designated deck levels only
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former staff must wait 6 months from their last shift before returning as a traveler
  • Candidates must live outside a 60-mile radius, as local candidates are not accepted
