Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 18 months of recent Med/Tele experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Medical nursing unit within a Trauma Level III, teaching hospital with a Stroke Center of Excellence and Chest Pain Center designation
• 23-bed unit with an average daily census of 21 patients
• Patient population includes chest pain, rule-out stroke, syncope, dizziness, and respiratory illness cases
• RN to patient ratio of 1:4-5
• 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Floating required within Region 1 facilities (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division) based on staffing needs, within scope of practice
• EPIC EMR system used
• Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing system used

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification required
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele nursing experience required
• Skills required include stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management)
• Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IV fluids required
• PCA pump experience required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care including cardiac monitoring, respiratory support, and medication administration for a Med/Surg Tele population
• Unit supported by a Supervisor, free-floating Charge RN, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalist coverage, and a dedicated IV/VAT team
• Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
• RTO of up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays; time must be made up at the end of the contract if contracted hours are not met
• Navy scrub color required
• Free employee parking deck available
• Positive team culture with unit activities such as book club and group viewing events
• First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
• Candidates previously employed in a permanent position at any Advocate Health Southeast facility must be separated for at least 1 year before eligibility
