Job Summary:
The Medical Surgical Orthopedic Floor Nursing position is based in Omaha, Nebraska. This role involves providing care to patients on a medical surgical orthopedic unit, with a focus on joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, and other orthopedic and medical conditions. The position requires a dedicated healthcare professional capable of managing a dynamic and diverse patient population in a fast-paced environment.
Job Details:
- Shift Schedule: Nights, 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license; BLS (American Heart Association) certification; minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: ACLS (American Heart Association) certification.
- Facility Notes: Unit has 55 beds, nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6, and employs medication titrations for heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine.
- Patient Population: MedSurg/Orthopedic patients including joint replacements, fractures, COPD exacerbation, cellulitis, sepsis, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and other acute conditions.
- Additional Responsibilities: Reading tele monitors, hourly rounding, managing multiple admissions and discharges daily, and responding promptly to patient needs.
- Team Composition: Includes nurse aides/patient care techs, tele techs interpreting tele monitors, and charge nurses who may take on assignments.
- Orientation: Two days of specific unit orientation.
- Floating and Coverage: Floating to other MedSurg units with the same patient care focus; weekend and holiday coverage required.
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs.
- Other notes: Mechanical lifts in some rooms; emphasis on teamwork, attendance, compassion, and cultural sensitivity.
- Scheduling Notes: Self-scheduling and block scheduling may be considered. Schedules are posted 6 weeks in advance.
- RTO Policy: Upfront RTO request with 7 days or less per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved.
