Travel RN – Med-Surg | 13-Week Contract
Specialty: Registered Nurse – Med-Surg
Shift: 12-Hour Days or Nights (6:45 AM–7:15 PM / 6:45 PM–7:15 AM)
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Requirements
- Active RN License
- BLS required
- NIHSS required
- ACLS preferred
- Peritoneal Dialysis experience highly preferred
Unit Highlights
- 52-bed Med-Surg unit with all private rooms
- EMR: Sunrise
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6–7 (primarily 1:7)
- 4–6 CNAs per shift (1:10–12 ratio)
Patient Population
- Orthopedic post-op patients
- Neuro post-op (laminectomies, discectomies, spinal fusions)
- General surgery post-op (gallbladders, mastectomies, bariatric procedures)
- COPD
- Chest pain
- Pneumonia
- Cellulitis
- Infections
- Hemodialysis patients
- Peritoneal dialysis experience is highly preferred
Clinical Skills
- Heparin infusions
- PCA pumps (Morphine)
- Occasional Lasix and Ativan drips
- No cardiac or insulin drips
- Intermittent BiPAP, CPAP, and High-Flow Oxygen
- Remote telemetry (tele reading not required)
Unit Support
- Hospitalist, Intensivist, RT, IV Team, PICC Team, and Pharmacy available 24/7
- IV Team performs peripheral IV insertions
- Charge nurse carries a patient assignment
Schedule & Orientation
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday rotation required
- Travelers may float to Med-Surg, Med-Surg/Oncology, or IMC (Med-Surg overflow only)
- General hospital orientation plus 2 full shifts with a preceptor
Submission Requirements
- 50-mile local radius rule applies
- Unexpired driver's license must be included with submission
- Any licensing/background issues must be disclosed at the time of submission
This assignment is ideal for experienced Med-Surg RNs seeking a high-volume post-surgical unit with strong interdisciplinary support, consistent 12-hour shifts, and exposure to a diverse medical and surgical patient population.
