Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN with required orthopedic experience for a night shift assignment.

Details

  • Work in a Medical Surgical unit with an orthopedic patient focus
  • Care for patients recovering from orthopedic surgeries or injuries, managing chronic musculoskeletal conditions
  • Unit has 10 rooms/beds with a 1:5 patient ratio
  • Night shift schedule (3x12 or 4x12), working 18:45 to 7:15
  • Epic charting system experience preferred

Requirements

  • Active RN license (State or Compact) required in hand at time of consideration
  • Current certifications: BLS and NIHSS required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience required
  • Orthopedic nursing experience required
  • Prior charge nurse experience preferred
  • Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care, colostomy/ileostomy management, feeding tube care, and administration of Heparin, Insulin, and PCA medications
  • Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation skills required, including use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, and oxygen administration skills required
  • Experience with ortho trauma and total joint replacement care required
  • Peripheral nerve block catheter experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Deliver specialized orthopedic nursing care including patient and family education on care and prevention
  • Respond promptly to life-threatening situations with appropriate nursing interventions
  • Organize care delivery by prioritizing, delegating, and communicating with providers and leaders
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply for this unit
  • No travel pairs or groups will be considered
  • Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
  • Former staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
  • No more than 3 days of RTO will be auto-approved, and no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
