Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience and a night shift schedule.

- 4W Medical/Surgical unit in a 241-licensed-bed, Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center hospital
- 32-bed unit with an average daily census of 32 patients
- Patient population includes stroke, respiratory illnesses (flu, pneumonia, COVID), renal failure, peritoneal dialysis, and wound care
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6, with surge ratios up to 1:7-8
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Low census call possible; night shift travelers may be called back up to 3:00 AM
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — do not apply if unwilling to float
- EMR: Epic
- Unit uses virtual nursing (VNO) with 10 cameras; virtual RNs assist with med witnessing, patient monitoring, and admissions/discharges
- Schedules are set on a 6-week cycle
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone)
- Skills required include wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management
- Epic EMR experience
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- One professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have held a permanent (staff) position at any AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
- Unit support includes CNAs (ADLs, mobility, feeding), a charge nurse, phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7) — no HUC on unit
- Telemetry monitoring technicians are available on the unit
- Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental training
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
- A clinical interview with the manager is required as part of the hiring process
- Navy scrubs required
