Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Medical ICU role in a high-acuity, fast-paced unit requiring at least 1-2 years of ICU experience and a WA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Level II Trauma Center medical ICU treating medically complex, critically ill patients
  • Patient population includes respiratory failure, post cardiac arrest with TTM, multisystem organ failure, various shock states, CVA post tPA, COVID, ARDS, DKA, and ETOH withdrawal
  • Standard patient ratio is 2:1, which may increase to 4:1 for grouped boarder patients awaiting transfer
  • 1 CNA per shift to assist the team
  • Frequent procedures include bedside central and arterial line placement, chest tube placement, rapid sequence intubation, paracentesis/thoracentesis, and code blue response
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12 or 4x12 hours (6:30 AM-7:00 PM)
  • Weekend work required
  • Floating required, including to telemetry units and potentially to sister facilities based on census needs
  • Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active WA state or compact RN license required in hand at time of submission
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • 2 hours of stroke-specific education required annually
  • Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required; first-time travelers accepted with at least 2 years of ICU experience
  • Trauma Level II hospital experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Skills required include IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central and PICC line management, ventilator management, ABG interpretation, continuous IV sedation, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Experience with CVA/acute stroke management, hypothermia protocol, and multisystem organ dysfunction management required
  • 2 supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years required
  • Full SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Care for high-acuity ICU patients requiring close monitoring and complex interventions
  • Work alongside CNA support staff on each shift
  • Must commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
  • Scrubs of any color accepted except reddish orange
  • Facility-paid parking provided
  • Local candidates not accepted; must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify for travel rate
  • Minimal RTO accommodated; requests should be submitted upfront during consideration
  • Former permanent staff may return as travelers after a 3-month waiting period, provided they reside outside a 50-mile radius
  • First-time travelers welcome to apply with at least 2 years of ICU experience
