Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift oncology unit requiring 2 years of acute care experience and an active OH or compact RN license.

Details

• Work on a Medical/Surgical Oncology unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with all subtypes of solid tumor cancers including breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, and esophageal cancer
• Patients are cared for across the full cancer journey, from new diagnosis through treatment and transition to end-of-life care
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-7:30
• Staffing ratio goal of 1:4, which may be as high as 1:5
• Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
• No set or blocked scheduling offered
• Floating required to other Medical/Surgical Oncology units
• Uses Epic for computerized charting

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• BLS certification required
• ONS Chemo certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required, current within the last 12 months and specific to the specialty applied for
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Epic charting experience required
• Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs, blood product administration, central line blood draws, cardiac monitoring, and interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Experience accessing and managing ports and administering chemotherapy preferred
• Tracheostomy care/management skills preferred
• Isolation precautions and PPE knowledge required
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
• Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; coworker references are not accepted

• Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
• Candidates must come with a willingness to learn and grow their nursing practice
• Candidates must complete Ohio BCI and FBI fingerprinting as soon as possible after accepting an offer due to strict compliance deadlines
• Fingerprint background checks include lifetime searches
• Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location promptly after booking
• Candidates at extreme distances will be mailed a fingerprinting packet that must be completed urgently upon receipt
• RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
• Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible to be hired as a traveler
