Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiac Cath Lab Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active nursing license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: Traveler Experience: Not required Locals Accepted: Yes Description: Minimum 2 years of experience in a cath lab setting is required. Local candidates will be accepted for this position. Work in a diagnostic cardiac cath lab as well as an interventional cath lab. Familiarity with cardiac stent placement, diagnostic catheterizations, and interventional catheterizations is necessary. Experience with IABP placement and removal, left and right heart catheterizations, and pulmonary artery line monitoring is essential. Knowledge of emergency medications, procedural sedation administration and monitoring, and IV therapy is expected. Must be able to perform blood product administration and manage IV infusion pumps. Understanding of 12 lead EKG interpretation and active clotting time monitoring is required. Skills in infection prevention, isolation precautions, and management of dysrhythmias are important. Ability to monitor procedural sedation using the Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale is needed. Experience with sheath removal and monitoring is essential. Preferred Skills: Experience with ASD closures, cardiac implant closure devices, and Impella insertion is advantageous. Familiarity with rotablator atherectomy and transcatheter aortic valve implantation or replacement procedures is a plus. Skills in assisting with angioplasty and dialysis graft interventions are preferred. Knowledge of central line insertion and care, including PICC line maintenance, is desired. Proficient in end-tidal CO2 monitoring and knowledge of hypothermia protocols is beneficial. Experience with vascular closure systems and conducting vascular studies is advantageous. Ratio of patients to staff is 1:1. Occasional late days may be required, typically 4-5 days per month. Call is required one day per week and every fifth weekend. Floating may be necessary as needed in the department. No weekend work is mandated. Patients referred to the cath lab will present with a range of cardiovascular diagnoses. Special procedures performed will include percutaneous coronary interventions, shock management, and various catheterizations. Familiarity with special equipment such as Impella, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy systems is necessary.
