Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Registered Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Primary shift could be days or nights depending on facility need Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: One (1) year of professional nursing experience preferred License: Current licensure in the state of employment required Certifications: A valid driver's license required Must-Have: - Nursing care - Medication administration - Patient assessment - Supervisory techniques - Emergency procedures Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care. This includes executing orders from Licensed Independent Providers. Dispensing and administering medications is part of the role. Assisting Licensed Independent Providers in examinations and treatment of patients is required. The RN applies nursing and supervisory techniques in the care and treatment of inmates/residents. All technical and clinical procedures must be performed within the scope of education and licensure. The RN attends sick calls with physician to see inmates/residents. Preparing a list of inmates/residents to be examined is necessary. Preparing examining rooms and equipment is a key task. Operating pill call, dispensing medication, and documenting as required is essential. Contacting Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders during emergencies is necessary. Examining and assessing new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries is an important responsibility. Referring inmates/residents to emergency rooms or other appropriate healthcare facilities as needed is required. Performing emergency procedures and notifying Licensed Independent Providers is necessary. Coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel is also a role of the RN. Monitoring inpatient hospitalizations and guiding nursing care provided by vocational/practical nursing staff is expected. Maintaining a good working relationship with facility staff and providers is essential. Utilizing established policies in decision-making while exercising independent judgment is crucial. Regular evaluation of medical services to prevent inappropriate use is necessary. Maintaining the security and confidentiality of all medical records is imperative. Assisting in the review of medical files to ensure documentation of services is required. Monitoring potential catastrophic illnesses is a part of the role. Auditing pharmacy use for adherence to formulary is necessary. Complying with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances, is essential. Observing and recording inmate/resident behavior is required. Inspecting the medical unit for contraband items is a key responsibility. Providing health counseling and health education on individual or group basis is expected. Assisting in preparing and maintaining various records, reports, and logs using appropriate grammar is required. Reading and interpreting medical and technical procedures and legal documents is necessary. Reviewing and responding to lawsuits and attending court hearings may be necessary. Facilitating accreditation of the medical program by providing efficient and approved services is expected. Preparing safety and accident reports as required is part of the role. Taking appropriate action in cases of serious incidents and emergencies is necessary.
