Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Registered Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days - could be 1st or 2nd shift Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of professional nursing experience License: Current licensure in the state of employment Certifications: Valid driver's license required Must-Have: - Nursing care - Medication administration - Patient assessment - Supervisory techniques - Emergency procedures Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care. This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider's orders and administering medications. The RN assists Licensed Independent Providers in examinations and treatment of patients. The role involves applying nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care and treatment of inmates/residents. Technical and clinical procedures will be performed within the scope of education and licensure. Appropriate nursing skills will be utilized in the care and treatment of inmates/residents. The RN will attend sick call with the physician to see inmates/residents. A list of inmates/residents to be examined will be prepared. The RN will also prepare the examining room and equipment. Medication will be dispensed during pill call and documented as required. The RN will communicate with Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders. The RN examines and assesses new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries. Referrals to the emergency room or other healthcare facilities may be required based on their condition. Emergency procedures will be performed as needed, notifying Licensed Independent Providers for treatment orders. The RN will assist in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel. A good working relationship with facility staff and nursing staff is essential. Decision-making will utilize established policies and sound independent judgment. Regular evaluations will be conducted to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of medical services. Confidentiality of all medical records must be maintained. Assistance will be provided to review medical files for proper documentation of services. The RN will closely monitor potential catastrophic illnesses. Pharmacy use will be audited for adherence to formulary as required. Compliance with pharmacy laws, particularly regarding controlled substances, is essential. Observation and documentation of inmate/resident behavior will be required. The medical unit will be inspected for items that could be used as contraband. Health counseling and health education will be provided on an individual or group basis. The RN will assist in preparing and maintaining a variety of records, reports, and logs. Reading, analyzing, and interpreting medical and technical procedures, regulations, and documents will be part of the role. The RN will review and respond to lawsuits and may attend court hearings when necessary. Facilitation of accreditation of medical services will be part of the responsibilities. Safety and accident reports will be prepared as required by policies and procedures. Appropriate action will be taken in cases of serious incidents and emergencies.
