CVICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced CVICU Registered Nurse to join our team in a Post Open Heart Recovery Unit. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with a strong background in cardiovascular care and specialized skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized nursing care for patients recovering from open-heart surgery, thoracotomies, esophagogastrectomies, and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacements (TAVR).
• Monitor and manage patients with advanced cardiac support devices, including ECMO, IABP, and Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD/RVAD).
• Administer and titrate cardiac drips and manage continuous IV sedation.
• Conduct thorough assessments and interpret dysrhythmias and Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs).
• Coordinate care and communicate effectively using SBAR, EPIC, and PYXIS systems.

Required Skills and Certifications

• Minimum 2 years of critical care experience, specifically in CVICU.
• No first-time travelers; local candidates are accepted at the same rate.
• Active certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.
• Experience with the following skills:
  • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Management of dysrhythmias
  • Post Cardiac Surgery care directly from the OR
  • Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring
  • Arterial line management
  • Blood Product Administration
  • Central line care/management
  • Care of Ventilated Patients
  • Isolation Precautions/PPE

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• Accessing and managing ports.
• Assisting with chest tube insertion and removal.
• BiPAP/CPAP management and maintenance.
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) usage.
• Ventilator management.

Scheduling and Orientation

Shift Schedule: 3x12 hours, DAYS from 06:45 to 19:15. There may be opportunities for 36 or 48-hour work weeks. Contracts can range from 13 to 26 weeks. The nurse will be required to float and work every other weekend.

The traveler must be available for mandatory hospital orientation during the first week, including daily classes.

Scrubs

Navy or white scrubs, or a combination of both, are required.
