Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

The Operating Room Registered Nurse plays a vital role in providing high-quality surgical care in a multi-service Level-II Trauma Center, specializing in cardiothoracic surgery, vascular procedures, and more. This position ensures optimal patient outcomes by delivering safe and effective surgical support across various core service lines.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in high-acuity surgical support for cardiothoracic, thoracic, and vascular surgeries.
• Circulate in the operating room, ensuring adherence to infection control protocols and best practices.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate efficient surgical procedures.
• Utilize electronic medical records (EMR) for documentation and reporting, specifically using EPIC.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in cardiothoracic surgery and high-acuity environments preferred.
• Proficiency in general operating room practices; scrubbing experience is a plus but not required.
• Active and unrestricted RN license valid in Virginia or a compact state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.

Schedule

This position requires a day shift schedule of three 12-hour shifts from 07:00 to 19:30, with additional on-call expectations for weekday and weekend shifts as needed.

Unit Description

The unit operates within a dynamic surgical environment featuring 15 operating suites, including one hybrid OR. The surgical team consists of three cardiothoracic surgeons and five vascular surgeons, committed to delivering excellent patient care in a collaborative setting.
