Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Travel CVOR Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week assignment at Independence Health System in Greensburg, PA. The CVOR RN will primarily provide perioperative nursing care for cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgeries, serving as a key member of the heart team. When no cardiac cases are scheduled, the RN will assist with other Operating Room specialties, including General Surgery, Orthopedics, Gynecology, Vascular, Robotics, and Urology. This position requires strong cardiothoracic surgical experience, flexibility with call, and the ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment.
 

CVOR Registered Nurse (RN) – Key Responsibilities & Requirements

Cardiovascular & Cardiothoracic Surgery

  • Serve as the Circulating RN for cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgical procedures.
  • Assist during complex cardiac surgeries, including:
    • Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
    • Mitral Valve Replacement
    • MAZE Procedures
    • Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
  • Support vascular procedures, including aneurysm repairs and carotid surgeries.

Operating Room Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain sterile operating rooms before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Assist with specimen handling, surgical instrumentation, and equipment setup.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, radiation safety, and Universal Time-Out protocols.
  • Assist with OR workflow by preparing surgical cases, stocking operating rooms, and providing staff break and lunch coverage.

Cross-Functional OR Support

  • Function in both CVOR and General OR settings.
  • When cardiac cases are unavailable, circulate in:
    • General Surgery
    • Orthopedics
    • Gynecology
    • Vascular Surgery
    • Robotics
    • Urology

Call Requirements

  • Ability to arrive early for scheduled cardiac cases and remain until procedures are completed when on call.
  • Participate in on-call rotations:
    • Weekday Call: 1–2 times per week
    • Weekend Call: 1–2 weekends per 6-week schedule

Required Clinical Experience

Strong hands-on experience with:

  • CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting)
  • Mitral Valve Replacement
  • MAZE Procedures
  • TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement)
  • Cardiovascular Surgery
  • Vascular Surgery

Documents & ExperienceRequirements

  • Active Pennsylvania RN License.
  • Minimum 2 years of CVOR/Cardiothoracic Operating Room experience.
  • Prior travel nursing experience required.
  • Recent cardiothoracic surgery experience required.
  • Current BLS certification.
