Job Title: RN Hemodialysis Profession: Nursing Specialty: Hemodialysis Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 4 Days per Week (Monday - Thursday) with alternating Saturdays Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum one (1) year clinical experience in medical-surgical, emergency room, or critical care. Minimum one (1) year related experience in hemodialysis as a dialysis nurse. License: Current RN License required. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required. Must-Have: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required. Description: Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, Hemodialysis Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients who require hemodialysis. Care is provided based on the application of scientific nursing principles. Responsibilities include conducting ongoing focused physical, psychosocial, and pain assessments. Assessing patient education needs is also essential. Nurses utilize assessments to identify problems, make nursing diagnoses, and formulate goals. They create individualized plans of care for patients on hemodialysis treatment. Nurses prioritize and implement efficient nursing plans of care. Consistent evaluations are conducted to recognize changes in patient conditions. Nurses adjust the plan of care as necessary based on re-evaluations. They communicate with healthcare team members about the need to revise or maintain the plan of care. Effective prioritization of tasks and adjustments is vital. Nurses maintain an orderly and timely flow of patients. They recognize and report errors, near misses, or unusual occurrences and initiate corrective action. Goals for short and long-term outcomes are developed and communicated in multidisciplinary meetings. Nurses make accurate and timely entries into patient medical records addressing all nursing process steps. They demonstrate competency in setting up and operating the dialysis machine. Assessment of patients' vital signs, weight, and pain is essential. Nurses observe for signs of volume overload and complications of renal failure. Knowledge of critical lab values is required. Nurses initiate and terminate hemodialysis treatments in patients with access devices. Monitoring blood pressure every 30 minutes or more frequently is necessary. They ensure the access site is visible and properly secured. Nurses observe for complications such as air embolism, hemolysis, and arrhythmias, reporting them immediately. Preparation and administration of prescribed medications is part of the role. Adverse reactions to medications or treatments are reported in accordance with established policy. Nurses recognize respiratory emergencies and initiate standard interventions to stabilize patients. Efforts are made to prevent hospital-acquired conditions and falls. Referrals for health maintenance services are initiated as needed. Utilization of resources in planning care and consultations is expected. Nurses are required to work flex hours.
