Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Duration: 22-26-week contract, must run through January Shift: Part Time, Day/Night Rotations Hours per Shift: 2x12s Experience: Minimum of two years acute hospital experience, with one year in an emergency department License: Current RN Licensure Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (Must be AHA or RQI) Must-Have: Minimum of two years experience as a Registered Nurse, at least one year in an emergency department environment Description: The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and collaboratively provides direct care. The ED RN applies appropriate interventions and evaluates patient progress. The ED RN evidences skill in the use of various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions appropriate for managing life-threatening and routine emergency situations. The ED RN utilizes principles of relationship-based care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, address pain/discomfort, and ensure safety. He/She assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups, their families, and support systems as appropriate. The RN connects with patients and families during triage, identifying initial management and assigning care priorities in accordance with triage standards. The RN establishes rapport, addresses comfort needs, listens carefully, assesses nonverbal communication, and provides frequent updates. The RN conducts primary assessments of critical needs, documents major deviations from norms for all age groups, and identifies necessary interventions required. Using direct observation, patient/family interviews, and data, the RN conducts secondary assessments and identifies contributing factors to health events. The RN assesses psychosocial needs, documents any suspicion of domestic violence or abuse, and reassesses the patient to identify responses to treatment. The RN encourages mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The RN teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks consistent with individual education, training, and scope of practice. Understanding the responsibility to safeguard public safety, the RN complies with infection prevention strategies. The RN prepares patients, families, or caregivers for diagnostic procedures and treatments, making appropriate referrals for post-emergency care. The RN teaches patients what is necessary for continued care and healing at home, assessing learning styles to maximize understanding. The RN keeps patients and significant others informed throughout the care process, anticipating their needs and maintaining awareness of the patient's condition during the visit. The RN updates patient communication boards throughout the emergency department stay.
