Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Emergency Department License: Required Certifications: ACLS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: - Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience - Conscious sedation and critical thinking skills - Acute Myocardial Infarction management experience Description: The Emergency Department is a Level 4 trauma facility with 24 beds and 4 critical rooms. There is 1 trauma room available for critical cases. An intake model is utilized for lower acuity patients with flexible RN to patient ratios. Travelers who meet competency are permitted to perform triage duties. Patients managed within the Emergency Department do not have separate holding areas; all ER holds are intermingled. We have 2 equipped rooms for psychiatric care and seclusion. Security personnel are present in the Emergency Department 24/7. On average, the department sees between 80 to 110 patients daily. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:4 for general emergency care, with ICU ratios of 1:2 or 1:1 based on patient acuity. The charge nurse and house supervisor are available 24/7, and the charge nurse does not take patient assignments. Emergency Department Technicians monitor a 1:10-12 ratio and are skilled in IV placements, phlebotomy, and wound care. Paramedics provide support during peak hours with capabilities to administer certain medications and discharge patients. Respiratory Therapists are available 24/7 for procedures like intubation and Bi-Pap setups, while nurses may start breathing treatments when necessary. All patient beds have telemetry monitoring capability, and nurses are responsible for reading their own strips. Radiology services for X-ray and CT are readily accessible, with transport managed by the imaging team. Both nurses and phlebotomy staff draw labs as needed. Scheduling does not permit self-scheduling but allows block scheduling for a maximum of 4 consecutive shifts. Weekend work consists of every other weekend, and holiday shifts are negotiable with some major holidays required. On-call shifts are included in the schedule, with floating required between designated emergency departments. Dress code requires navy blue scrubs.
