The Registered Nurse is a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated shift. Nursing care is prescribed based on the nursing process, consistent with the medical plan, and includes input from the patient and significant others. Collaboration with physicians and other healthcare team members is essential to coordinate the delivery of patient care. Care is provided to patients of all ages, including neonatal, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. The plan of care incorporates teaching and discharge planning needs. Certain aspects of patient care delivery may be delegated to other nursing staff based on their clinical competence and legal scope of practice. This position is represented by a union. Job Requirements: Education and Work Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Licenses/Certifications: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent certification is required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required at the time of hire. Demonstrated competency in Dysrhythmia during orientation for all departments except for specific units is required. Completing a Critical Care Course within 1 year of hire is required for Critical Care Units. Demonstrated competency in IV Sedation within 6 months of hire is also required. For the Emergency Department, PALS certification is required at the time of hire. Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification is required within 1 year of hire. Essential Functions: Utilizes the nursing process to assess patients. Designs and implements an individualized plan of care and evaluates the effectiveness of the plan. Modifications may be made to the plan as necessary. Considers age-specific, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients. Collaborates with other disciplines in formulating the plan of care. Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries, and diseases to patient care. Demonstrates knowledge of pharmacology in medication preparation and administration. Provides patient and family education throughout care delivery. Assesses knowledge and adapts learning activities accordingly. Responds to emergency situations calmly and follows established protocols. Oversees the delivery of patient care and addresses errors to ensure patient safety. Reports observations and problems regarding patients in a timely manner. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for clinical decision-making. Ensures continuity of care by processing physician's orders promptly. Sets appropriate priorities in patient care and adjusts to changes in workload. Acts as a patient advocate and ensures the preservation of patient rights. Delegates tasks to CNA's and student nurses based on their competence. Maintains awareness of professional responsibilities and legal scope of practice. Utilizes effective communication skills with patients, families, and staff. Documents assessments and care provided to all assigned patients. Performs technical aspects of patient care according to established policies. Prepares and administers medications and IVs with attention to age-specific needs. Performs emergency procedures, such as CPR, and assesses patient response. Demonstrates safe use of patient care equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.
